The Kidyak is this year's project in Mr. Pearsall's class. The students began the project by deciding what they were to build. They then needed to raise funds, and purchase the plans and materials. Then construction begins. The year-long project provides the students many opportunities for using skills and processes they've been learning and studying in class. For example: WRITING: Students have plenty of opportunity to write. On the first page of this website, you can see the students' letters. (These also allow them to practice formal communication - letter writing -skills.) The updates, too, provide writing opportunities. READING: Lots of reading involved in the directions. MATH: Conversions, measuring involve all sorts of math skills. ART & CULTURE: The final painting may well involve Native American design concepts. RESEARCH: Many interesting terms surfaced in the directions. GROUP SKILLS: Not everyone can do everything. They need to develop strategies for working together and sharing the responsibilities.
