The mating surfaces are coated with glue and the keel sprung into position. Note the clamps holding the blocking for the forward deck beam. Minor alignment will be required on this beam so that it aligns with the notch in the stem upright assembly.
The fairing is started by filing a series of grooves spaced an equal distance apart along the stem, chine, and keel.
The grooves must be filed so that the planking, represented by the yardstick, will bear firmly on the stem (or keel) and the chine, and not on a corner.
The areas between the grooves are then removed with a wood rasp, plane or other tool in a smooth sweeping curve, without humps or dips. |
