A 2" x 4" with a sanding belt or sheets of sandpaper nailed to one side is excellent for getting a final smooth fairing job.


Properly used, a power disk sander is ideal for fairing the forward sections, particularly on the bow piece. Caution: don't put nails through the plywood pieces on the stem in a position where they will be hit during the fairing process.


The battens are notched into the transom and rest on Frame #1. The battens are allowed to extend forward and "float" free. When the planking is fastened, it is best to have a helper underneath the hull forcing battens into place.


The plywood planking is clamped in place along the centerline of the keel and roughly marked and cut to shape.
