Fig 31: The first bottom panel is installed. Note the cleft made
in the panel along the stem. The bottom planking will meet in a
butt-joint aft of this point and a lap-joint forward.
Fig 32: The builder butts the second panel to the first, beveling
the second panel as required. A notch is required at the point of
transition from butt to lap-joint.
Fig 33: To transfer edge of the side panel to the bottom panel,
coat the edge of the side panel with chalk or crayon and bump the bottom
sharply against the side panel.
Fig 34: The anti-trip chine is butted to the bottom planking.
After application, the overhang along the chine is faired off.
Fig 35: As noted in the plans, a keel strip or skid fin is
optional. Here the builder has flattened the keel and is temporarily
installing the skid fin. The fin will be removed for fiberglassing then
the holes re-drilled before painting.
