Joining the sheer clamp to the bowpiece. The manual says the sheer clamp and chine log can be bent cold; I highly doubt it! It took 2 of us 1/2 a day to steam, bend, and fasten the 4 members. Lots of big clamps also.
I used a particularly dense mahogany (Philippine) for the chine log and sheer clamp; perhaps if Sitka spruce or some other softer wood had been used, the steaming could be avoided.

The chine and sheer are planed (faired) in 2 steps:
1. Notches are cut with a file or rasp at each frame. The angles matching the frame contour.
2. The notches are connected with a (sharp) smooth plane, making sure the transition between notches is smooth and even. This results in a fair hull and a straight sheer line.
