New Sugar Jack!
by Al Seymour Jr.
Continued
I thought of giving the boat a Viking Funeral,
however, the well designed, foam filled hull was intact. The boat sat on blocks
for a year. In 2005, my sister and her friend asked me if I was going to
dispose of the boat because they were interested in rebuilding it - a crazy
idea right? We gutted the Cabin Skiff just after Easter this year.

Gutted Jack (my son on left)
After gutting the Jack, I did some drawings and
measurements to convert it into a Centre Console. My sister Lisa Wilson and her
friend Harry Lightbourne, literaly did the bulk of the re-construction. We put
down all new flooring with styrofoam between the stringers, extended the cuddy
for more storage, replaced the steering and all of the wiring. The boat still
has a dual battery system, with dual automatic bilge pumps since it will be
moored, not trailered. It has a Bimini top, running lights, GPS, VHF, and a
fuel tank under the aft seat, as well as storage at the bow for anchor rode and
safety equipment. We plan to launch it next spring with a re-christening.
THE NEW SUGAR JACK

There you have it. It was a lot of work, but thanks
to Harry and Lisa what was sure firewood is now a new pleasure craft.
