Looking at several options for building a boat using a 350 chev engine and either a Prop outdrive or jet outdrive. Primary use of the boat will be cruising with some waterskiing. Some people have mentioned that jet drives are not efficient under 35MPH, and Prop outdrives are a tad more expensive, with possible prop strikes in shallow water. We currently have a boat with a 135 HP Mercury O/B motor. We considered using that motor on the new boat, but the engine is tired and if a rebuild is necessary, I think I would rather have a V8 anyway. Anyone have any thoughts on the jet vs prop drives?
