By any chance, are you using a short shaft motor on a long transom, or vice versa? The frame kit comes with a short shaft transom, but most modern 50HP motors are long shaft. How far is the engines anti-cavitation plate below the bottom of the boat?

By the way, 50HP is 10HP over the Glen-L's suggested rated max power for this boat (note that I used the word "suggested"). I independently did the Coast Guard calculations for a short transom and also came up with a Max HP rating of 40.

Finally, did you build the boat with a keel as shown on the plans?

: My son and I just completed a Tuffy and have the following problems:
: 1) Propoising - we're using a 50HP Johnson, and I don't think it trims down far enough. Also, the engine height may be too high. Can height affect porposing? What is the correct engine height?
: 2) The boat "slides" when turned. I'm thinking about adding an external keel over the winter. Is this the best method to control the slide, or should I consider something different?
