: exterior plywood has gaps in the interior ply. These gaps reduce the strength of the plywood. If you use exterior in the place of marine grade then you had better use the next thickness higher to compensate for the gaps. Also exterior ply is not saturated with as much glue as marine grade. The end grain of all plywood should be sealed with epoxy. The end grain of all wood acts like a wick to soak up moisture. It is not necessary to epoxy seal the exterior. Make sure you use a good quality marine grade paint. When you see the paint start to flake than repaint.
