I don't believe that soles (floors) need the strength of marine ply. The key is protecting it from being constantly soaked. And I don't think there's a better way to do that than with penetrating epoxy and epoxy-saturating cloth. And as noted in the other replies, pay close attention to the edges - also any holes you might have to drill, including screw holes. 5200 is good for screw holes.

Another approach is honeycomb cored 'glass. Nida-core.com makes a core material that would be GREAT for soles, but maybe a bit pricey. When I eventually replace the sole on my 15' CheckMate, that's what I want to use (quantity is small).
