The Okoume is not a Mahogany as I understand it. It is good for strength/weight ratio ply. The Okume has a plain straight grain. If you want lightest weight, use Okoume. If you want to show the finest grain in a finish, use a Mahogany.
These will come in a European marine grade called BS1088.

: Yes, a commonly used variety is called Okoume (African mahogany, I believe). I've never used it, but have seen the finished product and it is beautiful. The ten coats of varnish you plan to use will give it depth... it will look like the finish on a fine piano. Good luck!
