Squirt is a cool little boat. I've seen many pictures of them and built one similar not from Glen-L plans. Take your time and build it right and you will have a nice work of art everyone will admire and you'll have more pride as well.
I belive you can use plywood for the grooved look on a deck. 3/8 or 1/2 inch will do, not 1/4. Make your marks on the wood about 2 1/4 apart and draw lines on it from front to back. Then take a nice straight board and clap it to the plywood so that your skill saw blade lines up on a line all the way down it. cut only about 1/8 deep. cleer epoxy over the mahogany part and leave the grooves un covered. Best done with a roller than a foam brush. Once the epoxy dries, use thickened white tinted epoxy to spackel the grooves flush. This give sthe look without planking. I have not seen this done, but I belive it to work. Anyone out there disagree, let me know.
