I agree. Unless the boat is merely a "parade and boathouse queen", dents, dings, etc. are inevitable. The glass greatly reduces the degree of damage.

Not having to worry about the finish cracking and crazing due to wood movement is great. Don't even think about something as hard as a 2 part automotive clear whithout the glass. The 2 part clear is a big improvement over ordinary varnish (so far - ask again this time next year for a definitive answer).

The weave of 4 oz cloth is barely noticeable when properly done. Glancing sunlight can make it show up in some areas (application issues on my part).

One of the things I did not like on many older boats was the discoloration due to water penetration at seams, bungs, etc. With the fiberglass it is simply not an issue.

I recommend that you go and look at some fiberglassed boats before making your final decision.
