Sorta it does matter which way the prop rotates with requard to the boat load. As has been pointed out the prop will cause the boat to lean opposite to the direction of the rotation and travel down the water at a port or stbd list. In an attempt to offset this, builders often put the operting helm where the weight of the operator will try to offset the list. If the operators weight and the natural list are on the same side the boat will list severly.

: So what your saying is that with a single engine in-board the engine rotation does not matter (left vs. right hand)? In forward gear does the prop turn in the same direction as the engine or opposite or does that matter?

: I'll be in Maine over christmas. CT would not be too far away. What else can you tell me about your boat? Frenchtom@hotmail.com

: : when a propeller rotates in one direction, the boat tends to torque in the opposite direction. Hence on a traditional boat with the helm on the starboard side you want a right hand engine (clockwise propeller rotation viewed from the stern). We just built an inboard runabout and used a left hand engine with a starboard helm and it works beautifully. so use any engine you want. BTW, I have a chevy 327 block-based crusader that is right hand. It needs a rebuild but ran before I pirated it for peripheral parts. Come and get it Cheap in CT if you want it.Regards, Mitchell
