There are so many types of pine that you have to be careful. Longleaf yellow pine is durable, strong, and rot resistant, similar to oak. White pine is junk. There are special types of pine grown by the logging industry that is super fast growing and popular in the lunber industry because they yield decent money, not what you want for your boat.
Old style yellow pine would work if you can identify it, and find it.
