I have a '86 Mariner 60 on my Console Skiff, and I find it to be very adequate. The top speed is around 38 mph, but it seems to have a hard time getting on plane with three people. Honestly, I think either would do fine, depending on what kind of performance you are looking for. I would use the 70 for a quick and powerful boat, but the 50 would be more economical if performance is not that big of a concern. In the shallow bays around southeast Texas, I need all the hole shot I can get! Good luck.
