: Hello everyone,
: I've been thinking of building a boat for a while now, and as I am not good with money, it must be on the cheap. Anyway, I sometimes trim or remove trees for people and where I dump the trimmings, they have some pvc pipe up to 24" in dia. with wall thickness of a half inch and more. They will sell it for two dollars a foot, I'd just have to plug the ends, which I thought I'd do by cutting plywood circles and fiberglassing them to the ends. What do you guys think about this idea? It would be the cheap way to go.

Pvc would work fine for what you propose as for sun damage it does happen you scrape it off and go on end can be bought as capes from a number of sources you can also weld the stuff with a hot air welding gun that can be bought from Harbor Freight for about a hundred dollars when not on sale and about sixty if on sale.
if you cut wedges out of the stuff and weld it badk together it makes a cool end.

I am doing the same thing out of large dia. steel pipe for my bout so have fun.....
Kevin
