Core Cell Foam

Hi, has anyone used core cell foam instead of plywood on a stich and glue boat? I am hoping to build the Sneak Box using this foam and was wondering if the wires used for stitching will tear through the foam.

I would also like to know if the difference in weight will affect the operation.
