I haven't done that before, but I usually attack new wiring problems the same way: figure out what I want, what wires are needed to carry the supply, ground, switching etc currents where they're needed, and then how to run those wires in a tidy and safe bundle. One thing would be to get a durable rubber jacket (perhaps a black rubber garden hose?) to run all your wires from the engine to the dash, to keep them safe and tidy.

The schmatic shouldn't be difficult, if you have a manual for the engine and can ID the correct attachment points. Yesterday you said you were concerned about charging the battery - if it's built as an electric start engine, that should be taken care of for you. The cables should already be there, and charging circuits included. Then the tach should have a designated place to attach, unless it's an ignition tach.

I suspect you'll find the problem easier to tackle if you go ahead and buy the engine and manual, and find out what you're working with.
