I have a set of Hunky Dory plans too, and I checked into engine sizes also. Close reading of other email on this page shows that some fellows are using up to twin 75s for this boat. I beleive that 30 HP is MINIMUM for the open skiff version. The extra weight of some of the fiberglass, decks, cabins and cuddy cabins would probably require a much larger motor for reasonable planing and speed. If you are stuck with a 30-50 HP motor, the Cabin Skiff design would be a better choice, because the boat is much lighter. When I build my extended Hunky Dory (with a cabin and lots of built-in features, I will be using an 4 cycle gas or diesel motor of 100-150 HP. Good luck with your project.
